Mons Seleucus, have you heard of it? It’s the name of the Gallo-Roman site located in La Bâtie-Montsaléon, in the southern part of the Hautes-Alpes department, which, between the 1st and 5th centuries AD, saw the development of a settlement at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, featuring civil buildings and a vast sacred area housing several sanctuaries. The interest in Mons Seleucus dates back to the turn of the 19th century, and many local scholars conducted archaeological surveys.
From the initial campaigns to the most recent excavations in 2010 and 2021 that uncovered exceptional sacred remains, explore the history of this site and discover all its facets: from daily life during the Gallo-Roman era to their ritual and religious practices.
