Château de Montauban - 2026 Season
About
Add anto.info to your preferred sourcesThis residence, the setting for many of Alphonse Daudet's novels, was primarily a place of calm and rest for the author: “Blessed house, how many times I have come here, to reconnect with nature, to heal from Paris and its fevers...”.
This magnificent building, featuring a monumental 19th-century façade attached to an 18th-century farmhouse, was the home of the Ambroy family who hosted the author during his stays in Provence. Daudet made regular visits there with his wife Julia starting in 1863, at the invitation of his cousins.
Now a museum center dedicated to the history of the village, the Château de Montauban showcases the prefiguration of a vast cultural project that already includes the permanent exhibition on the medieval archaeological discoveries of the region, Permanent Exhibition: "Fontvieille, a detour through the Middle Ages"
