Eddie Mannix, an employee of Capitol Pictures, is a cool-headed, dedicated man who imposes a certain integrity on himself. His tasks include: preserving the aura of the actors, ensuring optimal filming conditions, and managing press relations. In twenty-eight hours, he must find the missing Baird Whitlock, an egocentric actor kidnapped during the filming of a Technicolor adaptation of the Bible, and resolve all the inherent problems of the stars. The Coen brothers deliver their film dedicated to the 7th art, straddling the line between homage to a certain golden age of Hollywood and satire.
