In the streets of London, in the dead of winter... A young orphan, Emma, is taken in by an orphanage after her grandmother's death. The place is run by the dreadful Collins, who sends the young girl to sell nine matches in the street to earn the right to sleep in the home...

Unable to succeed, she ends up striking one of them to warm herself up...

Caught in the heart of an imaginary kingdom! There she finds her grandmother, imprisoned by the cruel Fragotov. She also encounters funny and endearing characters, like Monstro Falco, brave pirates, and Olga, a delirious fortune teller!
