LATEST NEWS FROM MARS EXPLORATION: LIQUID WATER, POTENTIAL SIGNS OF LIFE... WHERE DO WE REALLY STAND?

For half a century, the Red Planet has been a prime target for space exploration with over 25 probes placed in orbit or landed on its surface, revolutionizing our understanding of the planet. Far from the 19th-century "Martian canals," the images we receive today from the surface show an arid desert, covered in reddish dust and swept by winds. Nevertheless, we will see that the study of Mars still reveals many surprises and questions.

During this conference, we will revisit some of the latest results obtained from the most recent missions that have received significant media attention. From the presence of liquid water today to the search for potential signs of life, what are the scientific results behind some of the fantasies projected onto Mars?

Conference led by Aurélien STCHERBININE:
Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Research in Astrophysics and Planetology (IRAP) in Toulouse, his research focuses on the study of the planet Mars, particularly the water ice clouds and dust present in the atmosphere, as well as surface alteration related to ice in polar regions.
