The Equality mission and the mobile health prevention unit of the city of Montpellier, in partnership with the University of Montpellier, family planning services, CPAM, and other local partners, are organizing a day of awareness in honor of World Contraception Day and World Abortion Rights Day.

Aimed at students from the Universities of Sciences and Humanities in Montpellier, these two days aim to present the various available female and male contraceptive methods, inform about access to abortion, provide options for sexual health consultations, as well as offer STI screenings and discuss the history of the struggle for French women's rights to freely control their bodies.

On the agenda:

  • Distribution of the brochure Contraception and Abortion: Where to Get Information in Montpellier?

  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections

Contraception and Abortion: Where to Get Information in Montpellier?

History

Established in 2007 and supported by the World Health Organization, World Contraception Day, celebrated annually on September 26, aims to promote access to safe and effective contraception, encourage family planning, and reduce unwanted pregnancies. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of sexual and reproductive education, especially among young people, to enable them to make informed choices regarding their health and future.

Created in 1990, World Abortion Rights Day, celebrated on September 28, is an annual mobilization aimed at defending access to voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) as a fundamental right. The main objective of this day is to advocate for women's rights to freely control their bodies and choose to terminate a pregnancy without fear of legal repercussions or medical risks associated with clandestine abortions. This day also questions the resources allocated by public authorities to ensure that this right remains accessible to all, everywhere in the territory.
