Science and Society: Putting Knowledge Back at the Heart of Public Debate

This meeting proposed in Montpellier aims to open a time for reflection and exchange around the relationships between science, information, and democracy. In a context marked by the spread of false information, ideological instrumentalization of knowledge, and contemporary forms of obscurantism, it appears essential to restore the place of scientific knowledge in the public space.
With the participation of journalist and scientist Nicolas Chevassus-au-Louis, this initiative will address several major questions: how is science produced, relayed, discussed, or contested in society? What role do the media play in the dissemination of scientific culture? How can we build a truly informed democratic debate on issues such as health, the environment, technology, or risks?
Designed for a broad audience, this evening will combine presentations, perspectives, and exchanges with the audience. Its ambition is to show that science is not only a matter of laboratories or expertise, but that it fully constitutes a matter of citizenship.
