Pridamant, worried about his missing son, asks the magician Alcandre to reveal his fate. Through the magic of cinema, he observes the life of his son Clindor, who has become an adventurer and is in love with Isabelle.

Clindor experiences romantic intrigues and dangers, particularly with his rival Matamore. Alcandre offers him the chance to see, as in a live performance, the episodes of Clindor's life since his escape.
