L'Alba

L’Alba likes to say that Corsican musical tradition is not fixed, but rather, evolving and in motion. The music of L’Alba, timeless and open to the World, takes on an increasingly Mediterranean orientation in its new album À PRINCIPIU. L’Alba once again gives its work a prominent place in the Corsican musical landscape; while preserving the heritage of polyphonic voices, the group now integrates new influences with a palette of sounds borrowed from cultures from regions of the world such as North Africa, Italy, Greece, Portugal...

The creative approach of L’Alba is guided by its desire to accompany its songs with original arrangements that have Mediterranean tones, while remaining faithful to the ancestral cultural tradition. This desire to work in this direction arose from the observation of the closeness of the vocal identities of the peoples of the Mediterranean basin, particularly in terms of melismas and more broadly in terms of aesthetics. Characterized by its compositions that infuse exclusively positive energy, À PRINCIPIU aims to explore more varied eras and territories ranging from the North African area to the Eastern Mediterranean, imbued with accents that are both traditional and contemporary.

It is with the use of instruments such as the harmonium, acoustic or electric guitar, violin, clarinets, flutes, mandolins, bass, and percussion that the voices harmonize, that the monodies and polyphonies engage in a musical dialogue inspired by the movement of peoples and their cultural exchanges. Since its professionalization in 2005, À PRINCIPIU is the fifth album of the group, featuring prestigious guests (Senegalese-Moroccan percussionist Mokthar Samba, Zimbabwean singer and guitarist Louis Mhlanga, Corsican guitarist Fanou Torracinta...) as well as very talented instrumentalists and singers from the island who joined the collective for the occasion, some of whom, captivated by the new approach, have become full members. Thus, À PRINCIPIU, which means "at the beginning" in Corsican, leads the group to the start of a new artistic and human adventure...
