Darren Aronofsky's debut feature, made on a budget of less than $50,000 and shot in grainy black and white, Pi bears all the hallmarks of the late 1990s New York indie film. But the inaugural film of the future multi-Oscar-winning director known for Black Swan in 2009 and The Whale (2022), a cult author of Generation X (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler), is above all a frantic dive into the torments of the paranoid psychosis of its protagonist engaged in a relentless quest.

Between mathematical genius, Jewish mysticism, and urban frenzy, this film leaves no viewer unscathed. An immersion into the catastrophe of psychosis, to reach the light, and perhaps find the Golden Ratio.
