Medieval Builders: Free Artisan Demonstrations
About
Behind this project lies the expertise of two enthusiasts from the local association: Lucien, an accomplished woodturner, and Pascal, the builder, a mason specialized in heritage techniques.
Their mission? To revive the precise gestures of a time when human ingenuity replaced oil and electricity. By observing their work, discover the art of layout, stone carving, and the handling of period tools, faithfully passed down according to historical sources from the Middle Ages.
Don't miss the "Squirrel Cage," a medieval lifting device (or drum winch) reconstructed to scale. Step inside the wheel and operate the pulley system with the simple force of your steps. And with little effort (or almost), lift loads of several hundred kilos, just like the workers of 13th-century cathedrals.
Also discover, depending on the days and the availability of passionate volunteers, the site enriches with lively workshops such as medieval blacksmithing (working with incandescent iron) and rope-making (manufacturing hemp ropes).
Entry: Free.
