Heritage Days 2026 - Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church

The entrance door opens to the south towards the village.
The façade surprises with its narrowness (1.80m), barely wider than the base of the bell tower, a square tower, imposing due to the dimensions of its base and its height, pierced with two narrow openings like those of arrow slits. This massive tower resembles the tower of the church in Ercé: could it be that, like in Ercé, an old tower was reused to create a bell tower?

Two rows of dressed stones topped with classical-style balls frame the door; the date 1758 engraved on the lintel proves that this façade was the first in the valley built in this style.

Walking around the church, on the mountain side, one counts three medium-sized openings in the wall of the nave. The 19th-century addition is distinguished in the masonry at the level of the apse wall where seven tall and narrow openings have been pierced (the central opening has been closed). A cornice encircles the entire building. On the valley side, where the old cemetery is located, in the wall of the nave, there is a small bricked-up door adorned with alternating red and white painted voussoirs.

Come admire the 2 wooden statues from the 18th century (figurines): Saint Roch, Saint Lucy.
