The Grand Ecuyer is a Gothic gem in Cordes-sur-Ciel, "the Cathar city with 100 ogives," founded in 1222 by Count Raymond VII of Toulouse. Often presented as the hunting lodge of the latter, the Grand Ecuyer was more likely built around 1290 for a local noble family and later inhabited by notable figures and wealthy merchants. Its façade has just been restored, featuring unique civil Gothic statuary from the southern region, renowned for its finesse and symbolism.

This restoration has preserved a heritage in peril by reviving it, resisting it, and re-imagining it. The exhibition will showcase this fantastic authentic Gothic through photographs, revealing a "best of bestiary," from the lightning-struck bear to invisible dogs and decapitated dragons. It will also highlight the challenges and exceptional results of the restoration work.
