SAT OCTOBER 3
Transforming Energy to Produce... Food? From Electricity to Fertilizer
About
Add anto.info to your preferred sourcesAmmonia (NH₃) is at the heart of our food supply: it is the basic compound of fertilizers that nourish half of humanity today. But how is it produced? And can it be made with renewable electricity?
In this workshop, we start from scratch: a battery and water are all that's needed to produce hydrogen right before our eyes. We then demonstrate how a catalyst accelerates the chemical reaction through a spectacular demonstration, followed by how computer atomic modeling, our daily research tool, allows us to visualize atoms and design better catalysts. Visitors can manipulate molecular models to assemble NH₃ atom by atom.
An interactive quiz then connects ammonia to their plate: how much energy is needed to produce the fertilizer for your baguette? The workshop concludes with an open discussion on green ammonia and the decarbonized agriculture of tomorrow.
