EXHIBITION BY THE DUO: XOLO CUINTLE
About
The exhibition titled O Horizon
brings together a collection of sculptures by the duo Xolo Cuintle within the botanical collections of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier, as part of a research and creation project supported by Mécènes du Sud, in partnership with the University of Montpellier, the Faculty of Medicine Montpellier-Nîmes, and Les Amis du Jardin des Plantes.
The title of the series, O Horizon, refers to the organic horizon of soils, the upper layer rich in plant matter where numerous processes of decomposition, interactions, and transformations concentrate. An interface between the aerial world and the underground world.
This layer constitutes a space for circulation, recycling, and renewal of life.
Xolo Cuintle is a duo of artists, formed in 2020 by Romy Texier (1995, San Francisco) and Valentin Vie Binet (1996, Paris) who live in Paris and work in Aubervilliers.
Xolo Cuintle develops petrified and deserted scenes through the use of concrete, which they view as an emblematic geological component of the challenges of our contemporary era.
