Remember Montpellier during World War II: from the acts of resistants like Jean and Laure Moulin to the Vichy regime, through the Occupation and up to Liberation.
In 2024, to mark the 80th anniversary of Montpellier's Liberation, the Tourist Office has joined forces with the city to recount the major episodes of the war that led to these historic days.
Starting from the faculty of medicine, where your guide will discuss the involvement of academics during World War II, the tour will comment on the situation of the Jews and allow you to relive Montpellier under Occupation through testimonies from its residents, as well as the significant meeting between Pétain and Franco at the Prefecture.
Then, in the streets of the city, the feeling of resistance will emerge with the mention of the great names who led strong actions throughout the region.
Jean Moulin and his sister Laure will, of course, have an important place in this visit, which will allow you to discover the courtyard of the Hôtel de Rey where they lived.
An exciting memorial visit to understand and not forget.
