BEING HERE | NOW | EVERYWHERE, KIKI SMITH

This summer, MO.CO. is offering its spaces to the renowned American artist Kiki Smith. After hosting other major female figures in contemporary art such as Berlinde De Bruyckere, Huma Bhabha, and Françoise Pétrovitch, we will celebrate a creation with diverse practices, centered around the question of being in the world - social, spiritual, animal, and celestial bodies.

Kiki Smith, an American artist born in Germany in 1954, has been developing a multidisciplinary practice since the 1980s, blending sculptures, prints, photographs, drawings, books, tapestries, and various objects. One of the hallmarks of her works is experimentation through diversity and the refusal of any form of hierarchy. A central theme remains the human body, often female, its anatomy, its imprint, its relationship to the living. Sometimes unsettling, altered, or fragmented, it also appears calm, unifying, and a meeting point of energies.

The exhibition, designed in close collaboration with the artist, will bring together over a hundred works, covering a wide variety of mediums and techniques, spanning more than forty years of production. It will explore, across all spaces extending over nearly 1500 m2 spread over three floors, the interrelation of different aspects of her work through a narrative centered on the body. As both a complex ensemble of organs held together under the skin, it is also a sign of our social identity, dressed and accessorized. It is also the seat of our animality, our connection to nature, and a diffuse spirituality.

A richly illustrated bilingual catalog will also be published in French and English. The graphic design has been entrusted to Atelier Tout va bien. It will be accompanied by short multidisciplinary texts commissioned for the occasion.
