For this fourth album by Requin Chagrin, we find Marion Brunetto in every role. Of course, she is the author, composer, and performer, but she is also behind every instrument and in production: she is everywhere, in all the songs! Not for reasons of ego, she settled those matters early on during her years as a drummer and good comrade in garage and punk bands.

And she willingly praises her collaborators: Antoine Poyeton, sound engineer, for co-production and mixing, and Simon Lancelot for mastering. This omnipresence is simply a guarantee of artistic coherence. At the microphone, on the drums, at the console, it’s always the same sensitivity that must be expressed: hers. Such is the recipe of Requin Chagrin since its inception 10 years ago. Managing to get out of her head and find a new way to compose to taste the pure joy of making music is not easy; it’s a journey during which one must work hard to reach the moment of grace where it feels like no work is being done at all: ‘Turning off my brain to let the songs come,’ describes Marion, for whom the process has been complicated but salvatory. The lyrics come at the end: she transforms the drafts of her working versions at the last minute, headphones on, immersed in the music, allowing herself to be overwhelmed by the emotions she transcribes while carefully transforming her personal experiences into universal metaphors.

The result? Requin Chagrin, confidently, celebrates the marriage of guitars and synths, drums and drum machines, its fundamentals and a desire to evolve. Marion Brunetto is thrilled by the dimension these new songs take on stage, where she pushes the envelope even further. The album is bright, infused with the fervor of adolescence, full of a joy and depth that only true artistic freedom can generate.
