It all begins in 1229, with an homage paid by Jourdain de Rabastens to the powerful Count of Toulouse, Raymond VII. At that time, Saint-Géry was still just a toll castle, a sentinel erected to protect the town of Rabastens. Walls of rammed earth, an enclosure, and already a story that begins to be written.
More than a century later, the lordship passes into the hands of a Gascon family, the Baulat. They will remain there, firmly anchored, for nearly four centuries — a time marked by profound transformations. It is in the 17th century that the château undergoes its most significant changes: gallery, honor courtyard, new wings… A period document, dated November 1611, attests to these grand projects, and the leading role played by Antoinette de Baulat. Women, already, were shaping Saint-Géry.
In 1728, a counselor to the Parliament of Toulouse, Jean-Jacques de Rey, acquires a building that had fallen into great disrepair. He repairs, reconstructs, and imagines an ambitious overall plan — which death will prevent him from completing. It is his son Clément who will take over from 1765, giving the château the harmonious classical order it still displays today.
Since then, nothing has changed — or almost. It is this same residence, intact since 1800, that you can visit. Richelieu stayed here. La Pérouse, the famous navigator, left his mark here. And today, it is the descendants of the family who open their doors to you and tell you all this, in person, with the quiet pride of those who keep a rare memory alive.
