The Petit Choeur de Mondelle, conducted by Stéphane Berrone, will perform on Sunday, October 11 at 4 PM at the church of Massac Séran near Lavaur and on Sunday, October 18 at 5 PM at the church of Lisle sur Tarn.

The Petit Choeur de Mondelle is a mixed choir led by Stéphane Berrone, a pianist and choir director from Tarn. It was born from the conductor's desire to bring together musician friends to work on demanding works thanks to the immense and beautiful repertoire of choral singing. It currently brings together about thirty experienced choristers from all over the Occitanie region: Tarn, Aveyron, Lot, Gers, Haute-Garonne. They have been rehearsing their programs in St Sulpice in Tarn since the choir's creation in 2017. Since then, they have given numerous concerts in the region and participated in May 2024 in an international choral festival in Milan, Italy, where they met other choirs from across Europe. Their programs generally highlight the new generation of composers for choral singing, a genre highly appreciated by today's composers.

With almost ten years of existence, the choir has already explored a varied and original repertoire ranging from Hungarian polyphonies to Spanish and Basque music, including Italian Renaissance works. They have tackled composers such as Bardos, Monteverdi, Palestrina, Busto, Elberdin, etc., and particularly cherish Ola Gjeilo. For this season, they have chosen a repertoire reflecting two Magnificats, one by Vivaldi and the other by contemporary English composer Rutter. The Magnificat is a piece of sacred music whose text is taken from the Gospel of Luke: the Virgin sings after the visitation to Elizabeth, who senses that Mary will be the mother of the Lord. Mary's feelings after this prophecy are very intense; her soul leaps for joy, and she is full of humility and hope in the face of the Savior's power, a promise of a bright future for the humble. The music of Vivaldi and that of Rutter are very different but highlight the same text. These two works will be complemented by other pieces by Rutter and a magnificent composition by Whitacre: Five Hebrew Love Songs, which takes us back to the origins, to the Hebrew lands that witnessed this prophecy, like folk songs on the themes of love and nature.
The choir will be accompanied by an orchestral ensemble, most of whose musicians come from the Conservatory of Lavaur and the music school of Ambres. This rich collaboration makes this program a beautiful experience that we hope to extend.
