THE DAVALADA – MARTROR #4
About
Add anto.info to your preferred sourcesThe Inter’Cal association invites you to celebrate La Martror – the Occitan festival of the dead, on Saturday, November 21st at Place Max Rouquette, in the heart of Montpellier!
As winter approaches, after the harvests and as the light fades, the leaves fall, and nature falls asleep: this is the "davalada", meaning "the descent, the decline".
During this time, it is whispered that the deceased leave the beyond to return among the living, during the transition from the dead year to the one that is being born.
Many creatures appear in this moment when the world of the living and that of the dead meet: witches, skeletons, dragons, demons, fairies...
In the Occitan world, Celtic beliefs and traditions have mingled with popular Christian culture to give rise to Martror: the festival of the dead.
Embrace the festival of souls and come in costume!
► On the program:
Grand pyrotechnic show, concert, ritual in memory of our dead, fire show, face painting, traditional games, mourners... and delicious dishes (pumpkin soup, mulled wine, rouille sétoise, pescajounes, crepes…) to share continuously!
5:15 PM: Ritual in honor of the dead, with children from the schools
6:00 PM: Grand pyrotechnic show by the Cielo Company
7:00 PM: Festive concert by the group Krinkrin
La Martror is a contemporary Occitan festival inspired by regional traditions related to the memory of ancestors. Revived in recent years, it aims to reinvent these traditions: blending ancient rituals with contemporary creations, paying homage to the dead in joy and sharing, and giving festive visibility to Occitan culture.
