Through his travels, Seth's childlike characters and color vortices burst onto the walls of the world. Boys and girls playing, reading, hiding: rooted in their environment yet seemingly out of time, unique yet universal. Under his spray can and brushes, they speak to us about the transformations of the world. French artist Julien "Seth" Malland has made the planet his canvas.
As a child, he escapes by collecting stamps from distant lands with his grandfather, memorizing geographies, regimes, and religions. As a teenager, he fills his notebooks with drawings when graffiti art arrives. In the mid-1990s, with sheets becoming too small, he takes to the streets of the 20th arrondissement: a way to ground himself in reality. After years in the creative industries, he leaves everything behind, backpack on, and embodies the Globe Painter for five years on the show Les Nouveaux Explorateurs on Canal+, before continuing his journey alone.
Today, he continues his travels and pictorial exploration. His belief: public space is the ideal place to invite dreaming, questioning, and looking beyond. Everywhere, Seth draws children whose innocence contrasts with the harshness of their environment.
