JOAN MIRÓ - MAJORCA, THE WORKSHOP OF DREAMS

PERPIGNAN

About

The exhibition is based on a close partnership with the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Palma de Majorca, the main lender. Following the approach of the Miró Foundation in Palma, an introductory presentation will showcase Miró's work through a reconstruction of his Minorcan studio under the theme "Majorca, the Workshop of Dreams." Like an inner island, insularity nourishes Miró. When he settles there permanently in 1956, it is not an exile, but a return to light, to silence, to an island that becomes both a workshop, a refuge, and a cradle of creation. In the Sert studio, built on the heights of Palma, and in the Son Boter house, Miró opens a space of total freedom. Here, forms burst forth, signs float, colors breathe. Majorca is not a backdrop: it is a breath, a way of being in the world, of painting differently.

This section explores the intimate connection between an artist and his territory. Paintings, drawings, notebooks, objects, studio photographs... Each work bears witness to a dialogue between man and island, between matter and light, between solitude and the cosmic impulse that contributes to the construction of a Mediterranean alphabet of which Majorca is the blank page.

We will address the laboratory of his creativity, his relationship with his origins, but also with avant-garde architecture by discussing his collaboration with Josep Lluís Sert (1902-1983), the Catalan architect who is a major figure in modernist architecture.
