Conference by Perrine Lachenal, Céline Lesourd & Dorothée Dussy "Mazan: Anthropologists in Court"

As part of the first cycle of conferences Agora des Savoirs 2026-2027.

September 2024. The trial of Mazan sends shockwaves. This judicial event spills out of the courtroom and resonates within families, professional lives, and personal relationships. From the courtroom to the streets of Avignon and Mazan, anthropologists sought to follow this trial.

The investigation by these fourteen social science researchers, specialists in gender studies, has gathered hundreds of testimonies – from journalists, lawyers, members of feminist collectives, students, healthcare workers, shopkeepers… – providing a unique perspective on this event. It captures the echoes of a societal trial and what they reveal about power dynamics and relationships between women and men.

Free entry, subject to available seating.
