Expo Freedom, Equality, Peppermint Tea

On the occasion of October 3rd, German National Day, Franco-German artists explore through images what democracy and coexistence mean today.

The art exhibition will offer an original and "offbeat" approach to questioning the notions of freedom and equality: it uses mint as a universal symbol.

Mint grows in France, in Germany, everywhere in the world — universal, like the aspirations for freedom and equality. This project invites artists, visitors, and German students to reflect together on these concepts through works and installations.

Making mint a unifying symbol to discuss freedom and equality, relying on a partnership with the Mint Museum in Eichenau, an example of civic action to preserve the memory of a village through a plant. The Minzmuseum Eichenau sends us tea, flyers, and documentation that will help discover their actions. The exchange will also be realized through a film about the actions taken in Montpellier, which will then be shown at the museum in Eichenau.

This partnership illustrates the central idea: every citizen can act on their own scale and at any level for society, for a better coexistence.

Conclusion: defending democracy and human rights can start at any moment— for example, over a shared cup of mint tea among citizens who exchange and discuss. While everyone has their own way of preparing and consuming it, tea holds deep cultural and social significance for many communities around the world, as it is not only a widely consumed beverage but also a strong symbol of hospitality, tradition, sharing, and social connection.

• Wednesday, September 30th from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM: Café / Philosophy Tea on the theme "Democracy and Freedom Today"

• Thursday, October 1st from 2 PM: Visit and round table with the German classes from the high school in Nevers, in Montpellier

• Thursday, October 1st at 6:30 PM: Conference on the theme "Civil Disobedience through the Example of Hildegard of Bingen"
