Exhibition "The Garden in Motion" by Ella Zadok

The Espace Saint-Ravy is pleased to host, from September 17 to October 18, 2026, the exhibition The Garden in Motion, featuring a selection of works by the artist Ella Zadok. Through layers of oil painting, pastel, and drawing, the artist brings to life a representation of the landscape in perpetual transformation, where memory reinvents what the eye has perceived. Her works invite the visitor to a contemplative and deeply intimate experience.

Rooted in direct observation of the living, the paintings gathered in the exhibition The Garden in Motion arise from the time spent by the artist in the heart of gardens, ponds, and plant landscapes. Water lilies, flowers, and fragments of vegetation become the starting point for a work that oscillates between observation and memory. The drawings and studies made on-site serve as the foundation for a process that continues in the studio, where memories, sensations, and imagination gradually transform the observed forms. More than a representation of the landscape, these works seek to evoke the intimate experience of its traversal.

Created in oil and oil stick on large formats, they explore the expressive possibilities of pictorial material. The layers build up, fade, and then reappear, leaving the image in perpetual transformation. Between figuration and abstraction, each canvas becomes a space where gesture, color, and material carry as much meaning as the subject itself.

The exhibition engages in dialogue with the history of landscape painting, extending to the languages of contemporary abstraction, while affirming painting as a living medium, deeply relevant today.

At a time when images multiply and are consumed instantly, these works celebrate the unique ability of painting to slow down the gaze, to give a sensitive presence to the world, and to renew our way of perceiving it. They invite the visitor not only to look at nature but to experience it through the materiality and poetry of painting.

"I am interested in what is alive, changing, and impossible to freeze. Through these paintings, I hope to invite the gaze to slow down, to regain a form of sensitive attention to the plant world and to the way we inhabit landscapes. For me, painting is a way to enter into dialogue with what transcends us: time, memory, and the silent metamorphoses of nature." Ella Zadok.

Artist Biography

Originally from the United Kingdom, Ella Zadok currently develops her practice between the south of France and England. She began her artistic training in 2015 with a preparatory diploma in art and design (Foundation) in the UK. In 2017, she joined the Plymouth College of Art. After an Erasmus exchange at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier, she chose to continue her studies there and obtained her art degree.

Her work has been the subject of several solo and group exhibitions in France and the UK and is now included in private collections across Europe. After presenting her works at the Grad Show of the Morley Gallery in London in 2018, she continued a path of exhibitions in France and the UK. Her production has notably been shown in venues dedicated to contemporary art and heritage, including the Henri-Prades Archaeological Museum in Lattes as part of the exhibition "LUCY IN THE SKY" in 2020, as well as several group exhibitions at the Céret Printmaking Center and the Palais des Congrès in Perpignan in 2022.

Since 2022, Ella Zadok has also been developing a regular collaboration with Tralala Galerie, where she has presented several exhibitions in Collioure and then in Perpignan. Her work was subsequently showcased in solo exhibitions at the Vue sur Cours Gallery in Narbonne in 2025-2026, and then at La Capelleta and Galerie Art Sant Roch in Céret in 2026.
