THE KISS OF THE FAIRY THEODORE AKIMENKO
About
Add anto.info to your preferred sourcesThe Queen of the Glaciers (and her fairies), a fantastical opera in one prologue and 3 acts, composed in 1914. Libretto by Michel Dimitri Calvocoressi based on the tale The Ice Virgin by Hans Christian Andersen.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ukrainian composer Théodore Akimenko, the Opéra Orchestre is proud to present the world premiere of his 1914 opera, whose manuscript has remained buried for over a century. Loosely inspired by the tale The Ice Virgin by Hans Christian Andersen, the opera transports us to the heart of the Alps, in a white and untouched world, guarded by The Virgin, the protective figure of the mountain.
Facing her is young Rudy, haunted by the death of his father in the mountains, who inaugurates a luxury hotel complex on the peaks, under the gaze of cameras. Two worlds clash: one wild and silent, the other noisy and conquering. The young collective Opera Popolare, winner of the Ring Award 2025, resident artists at the Opéra Orchestre, seizes the work with a decidedly contemporary perspective, unfolding a visual universe where real footage, object theater, and video games intersect, to better question our relationship with nature. A sensitive and fantastical epic.
