Guided Tour | Discovering the Beautiful History of the Secondary School for Girls and Its Founder Pierre Flamens

Did you know? The coeducational institution now known as "collège Flamens," named in honor of its creator Pierre Flamens, mayor of Castelsarrasin, was originally reserved for young girls. From its inception, it was called "École primaire supérieure de jeunes filles." Remarkably, this secular institution features a boarding school: the first in France.

A rich past that deserves to be told and known. With the establishment of this school, Pierre Flamens and his municipal council deliberately aligned themselves with a movement favoring women's emancipation through education.

At the end of the 19th century, Castelsarrasin was undeniably ahead of its time.
