JEP 2026 - MONUMENT TO THE DEAD

Guided tour of the war memorial in Castelnaudary.

Created by sculptor Jean-Baptiste Malacan (Béziers 1875-1958 Castelnaudary), the monument was inaugurated on September 27, 1925. A second inauguration took place on Sunday, January 10, 1926. A hundred years have passed, and it continues to honor the memory of the soldiers and civilian victims of the town who died during various conflicts. The genesis, the various administrative stages of its construction, the decorative elements, and their significance will be discussed. Finally, the journey of some of the three hundred seventy-two soldiers or civilian victims and the two other soldiers not listed on the plaques will be mentioned.
