82nd Anniversary of the Liberation of Montpellier

In August 1944, France was gradually liberated from German occupation. On August 29, 1944, French troops arrived in Montpellier to free our city.
Every year, the City of Montpellier celebrates this anniversary by honoring the women and men who fought for their freedom by organizing a series of cultural events, to nurture the memory, which is so important in these troubled times.
This year, join us on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the royal square of Peyrou to celebrate this historic date!

Program for the 82nd Anniversary of the Liberation

• 10:30 AM - Parade of World War II military vehicles

  • Departure from the royal square of Peyrou to the Charles de Gaulle esplanade

  • Arrival at Lattre de Tassigny avenue

• 11:30 AM - Wreath-laying ceremony in tribute to the Fallen for France during World War II, Monument to the Dead of All Wars, Place of the National Order of Merit

• 12:00 PM - Ceremony for the Liberation of Montpellier, Lattre de Tassigny avenue

• 12:30 PM - Republican banquet with musical entertainment, Forecourt of the Pavillon Populaire

• 1:30 PM - Swing dance initiation with Swinging Montpellier, Bosc Kiosk

• Ongoing - Exhibition of military vehicles, Lattre de Tassigny avenue
