The Yellow Dog of Mongolia
Film by Byambasuren Davaa
Duration: 93 minutes
Ages: 7 and up
In the Mongolian steppe, a six-year-old girl, Nansa, discovers a stray dog in a cave. She adopts it and names it Tatoué. But her father, a nomadic herder, opposes the mysterious dog staying with the family, fearing it has been in contact with wolves and poses a threat to their herd. The girl stubbornly hides her new friend. Inspired by a Mongolian tale, this poetic film straddles documentary and fiction, inviting reflection on the meaning of life. It is the first Mongolian film to achieve international success.
