Exhibition "Reigniting the Stars" - Towers and Ramparts of Aigues-Mortes
About
Add anto.info to your preferred sourcesFrom June 19 to November 1, 2026, the Centre des monuments nationaux welcomes artist Sara Ouhaddou to the towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes as part of the program One Artist, One Monument and the Mediterranean Season 2026.
Through a unique journey spread across several towers of the monument and at the Porte des Moulins, the artist presents a collection of works combining glass, stained glass, garlands, and animal amulets. Inspired by dialogue, transmission, and collaborative practices, her approach resonates with the history of the place, particularly that of the women who were once imprisoned there.
This exhibition explores the various forms of confinement – physical, social, or intimate – whose echoes still resonate in our contemporary societies. In the face of these constraints, Sara Ouhaddou highlights the often-invisible gestures of daily life that carry memory, care, and the transmission of knowledge.
Designed as a poetic journey through the towers and ramparts, the path invites visitors to reflect on what is passed down from one generation to the next. The artist draws on the metaphor of stars to evoke the birth, brilliance, disappearance, and persistence of gestures, stories, and connections that shape our common heritage. Her works thus question the fragility of these transmissions while celebrating their ability to transcend time.
This exhibition is part of the Mediterranean Season 2026, an event that honors the richness and diversity of Mediterranean cultures. Through an artistic, cultural, and human program deployed across the entire Mediterranean basin, it promotes exchanges, cooperation, and the circulation of ideas between the two shores.
The Mediterranean Season 2026 particularly values initiatives led by younger generations and diasporas, while encouraging contemporary creation and dialogue between civil societies, notably with Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Lebanon.
Supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, in connection with the Interministerial Delegation for the Mediterranean, the Mediterranean Season 2026 is implemented by the Institut français under the general curatorship of Julie Kretzschmar.
