CHARACTER CREATION WORKSHOP

How do we transition from self to character?
How do we give it a body, a walk, a voice, a rhythm, an energy?
And above all, how do we avoid simply "playing an emotion"?
During this workshop, we will explore two major complementary approaches to acting.
With Stanislavski, we will start from the situation and the action:
Who am I? Where am I? What do I want? What is preventing me?
Because a character does not seek to show an emotion: it pursues a goal. Convince, seduce, resist, protect, flee, dominate, hide...
We will work on the given circumstances, objectives, obstacles, and physical actions, so that emotion can arise naturally from the performance.
With Michael Tchekhov, we will go through the body and the imaginary:
motor center, posture, walk, energy, relationship with the partner, and psychological gesture.
A simple gesture — attract, repel, protect, hold back, offer, attack — can gradually become a true inner drive of the character.
We will also use sensory memory: sounds, smells, materials, temperatures, lights... all elements capable of transforming breath, voice, rhythm, and presence.
Everything will be done on stage, through exercises, improvisation, and scene work.
The goal: to enrich the actor's toolbox and no longer ask:
"What emotion should I play?"
but rather:
"Who am I? What do I want? And what am I doing to get it?"
From imagination to body. From action to character.
A character is not decreed. It is built, searched for, tested... and ultimately comes to life.
