Discover the mikvé, an unknown yet magical place in Montpellier, with a guided tour!
The medieval mikvé of Montpellier, a 13th-century Jewish ritual bath for purification, stands as a testament to the importance of the Jewish community that played a significant role in the development and prominence of Montpellier.
Located in the heart of what was once the Jewish quarter, the mikvé is among the oldest and best-preserved in Europe.
It is fed by a constantly replenished underground water table; the water flows from an opening (or gargoyle) that symbolizes its passage.
