Book Club - I Love Philosophy No. 6: "On Artificial Stupidity" by Anne Alombert
About
Add anto.info to your preferred sourcesLa Llibreria Jaimes dedicates the sixth meeting of its club I Love Philosophy to On Artificial Stupidity, an essay by philosopher Anne Alombert, with a session led by Nicolas Delforge.
The book critically examines what we call "artificial intelligence." Anne Alombert focuses particularly on the automation of language and expressive capabilities, the economic models of digital companies, as well as the cultural, social, and political consequences of the development of generative AIs. However, the goal in her approach is not simply to oppose humans and machines, but to study their co-evolution and the conditions that allow digital technologies to serve collective intelligence.
The experience offered by I Love Philosophy goes beyond a presentation of the book. Participants read the work before the meeting and then take part in a session that includes an introduction to the author and her work, an overview of the book, and especially a significant amount of time for discussing reading impressions, questions, and reflections. Preparatory sheets are available from the bookstore, and dialogue can continue between sessions through a WhatsApp group and a blog.
The book On Artificial Stupidity was published by Éditions Allia in September 2025. The publisher presents it as an essay dedicated to the consequences of digital technologies on our faculties of expression and reflection and the possibility of redirecting them towards forms of collective contribution.
