History Café: The Arcachon Basin as Seen by the First Photographers

As we approach the bicentennial of photography, an invention whose first image was captured in 1827 by the Frenchman Nicéphore Niépce, the Arcachon Basin holds a special place.

Beaches, fishermen, villas, and forests have been immortalized by photographers Terpereau, Jérôme, Bacour, Bouillier, Neveu, and many others. Their portraits, snapshots, and postcards are now invaluable witnesses to our history.
